Access control

Automatic bollards

A bollard that rises and lowers on its own, operated from a control point rather than by hand. Used where an opening is closed by default, opened many times a day, and nobody is available to lift a post in and out.

An automatic rising bollard in stainless steel, raised on its square base plate on a paved forecourt outside a glass commercial building

Where it is used

  • Entries opened many times a day under access control
  • Pedestrianised frontages with timed vehicle access
  • Condominium and commercial parking entries
  • Gated communities and residential driveways
  • Service courts shared between tenants
  • Openings where manual handling is not practical

SBD-AMSB2331 automatic rising bollard in stainless steel, raised on its square mounting plate

SBD-AMSB2331

Product code: SBD-AMSB2331

Automatic Steel Bollard System

An electric actuator drives the bollard up and down on a lead screw, so the opening is controlled without anyone handling a post. Available in powder-coated steel or 304 and 316 stainless, in two heights, with a rising speed of 9.5cm per second.

The foundation is the deciding factor: 1840mm of excavation, plus power and drainage. Confirm the location can take it before you design around one.

Choosing the right option

What does the installation actually involve?

A pit almost two metres deep, a power supply, drainage, and controls wired to however you want it operated: a fob, a keypad, an intercom or an existing gate controller. It is a project quoted against your site, not a part number off a price list. Send us the opening and how you want it operated.

Automatic or manual?

Automatic where the opening is used many times a day and nobody is going to walk out and lift a post each time. Manual: a retractable or removable bollard, where access changes a few times a week or seasonally. Manual costs a fraction as much and has nothing to fail.

Which height and finish?

600mm where the bollard has to be seen but not dominate a frontage, 800mm where it is doing more of the work. Powder coat where colour matters or a site standard applies, 304 stainless for a customer-facing entrance, 316 where de-icing salt is heavy.

Will it stop a truck?

No. The datasheet states plainly that this bollard is non-rated, and we will not tell you otherwise. It controls access; it is not an anti-ram barrier. If your project requires certified performance to ASTM F2656 or IWA 14-1, we will say so and refer you to a rated manufacturer.

Who commissions it?

Powered installations involve groundwork, electrical connection and commissioning. Tell us the site and we will be straight with you about what we handle ourselves and where we bring a specialist in.
